Suwasamadhi Monastery

The Suwasamadhi Monastery in the town of Uto, Kumamoto district, Kyushu province, Japan is a Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhist temple. It is located in a very beautiful and picturesque environment, and this calming temple is surrounded by a large reserve of 200 acres owned by the government. Within this forest, there are paths built for walking and beautiful Gardens.
Also, The Japanese nationals walk regularly in this reserve, engaging in physical and mental exercises. Programs such as Theravada meditation and religious practices are conduced to these people at this place by Dr. Randombe Suneetha Thero for the betterment of mental and physical spiritual healing.
There are many graves in this place, and members of the families belonging to these graves visit this place daily to worship these graves. In particular, once a year in Japan, a religious festival called Obon, which is a public holiday, is held from August 13th to 16th, and on this day, a large number of people come to this place and engage in religious rituals.
At this place, a replica of the Polonnaruwa Stone Temple’s statue ofᅠMaha Parinirvana is carved out of black stone, and a huge standing Buddha statue have also been built at this place.
This institution exists as a temple, and also as a social service, a rehabilitation center for Japanese nationals who are in need of mental health aid due to various reasons, they are being treated by following the ways of Theravada Buddhism. This institution is held at this location with the contribution of Mr. Hideaki Mizuno and with the help of the government.
